You made me cry, Chewy.

I don't ever want to be a financially motivated to a promote a company or to have a sponsor, and I'm not going to start today. But something happened recently that I wanted to share. I was buying my soft food, Weruva BFF Tuna and Beef Baby Cheeks Gravy packets. I usually buy this on Amazon. It's fast, shipping is free, just a click away. But this day, the food I wanted wasn't available on Amazon. Knowing this is the favorite flavor

amongst my herd I headed over to Chewy.com to see if they had it. Their pricing was right in line with what I usually spend via Amazon, the shipping would also be free (given I spend the low minimum), and it was in stock.

I also noticed Chewy had a nice incentive, spend $49 and receive a $20 gift certificate. Who wouldn't want that benny? So I placed my order and then hopped on chat to confirm that the $20 gift certificate would be coming to my account. As I chatted with the Chewy customer service rep, she asked how Beans and Frauline were doing. Beans was my soul kitten, whom died of colon cancer back in 2023. I couldn't bring myself to remove him from my Chewy account profile, as it was just one more way he was going to be deleted from my life. Chewy sent him a birthday card each year, and even though he wasn't with us any longer, receiving the acknowledgment of his life was touching. I shared Beans passing with the rep, whom was so sweet and offered her condolences.

Fast forward two days and here comes a florist with a delivery. It was a lovely little bouquet, with additional condolences and warm wishes. So many people mourned with me when Beans passed. Just about every client that had visited my home asked if Beans was available for adoption. I still find myself tearing up when I think of him. For the first time in my decades of breeding, I had a company reach out to mourn with me, and offer encouragement to savor the memories and love Beans left with me. I haven't been a huge buyer with Chewy. They didn't know I bred Sphynx. They just knew I had been Beans mom, I placed an modest order for some soft food, and that Beans was no longer with us.

I know these types of actions are "good for business", but they are also good for the heart. This type of attention has my attention. They expended funds to honor a cat that wouldn't be buying food from them again, wouldn't be buying litter from them, and wouldn't be needing insurance or toys, or have any financial benefit to them. You're not going to get that from Amazon.

So if you are looking for a company that is looking out for you, whom I believe brings more to the table than other businesses, I highly recommend Chewy. I'm still not endorsed by them, and get nothing for mentioning them. But what I do get, aside from the warm fuzzes and a flower hug, is the chance for my clients to get the same level of service and consideration. Hug and kiss your pets, as our Beans are in our life for a short time, but we're there for their entire life.
